The Only Pathway
To True Happiness

Foreword

Many of us have grown up believing that happiness will be the spontaneous result of our owning something, or of our achieving something, or of our going somewhere. Yet time and again in life we discover that even the best of material things, and even the most noble of achievements, and even the most wonderful of destinations, do not afford us any kind of lasting happiness. And so it will always be, for Scripture assures us that true happiness is not a matter of what we have, what we do, or where we go, but a matter of what we are. In other words, happiness is the product of attitude which, in turn, is the product of character. When our attitude towards "the higher things in life" is as it should be, happiness is always the spontaneous result.

The good news, of course, is that attitude costs nothing, which means that true happiness costs nothing - which means that anyone, but anyone, can be truly happy. This is why Jesus was so careful to instruct us in regard to our attitudes - for He wants us to be happy.

One of Jesus' most famous sermons, "The Sermon on the Mount," is often referred to as "The Beatitudes" - so called because this sermon speaks of the attitudes that should be enthroned on the hearts of all believers. In this sermon, Jesus outlines a number of ideal attitudes - each of which is guaranteed to increase the sum of our happiness.

These attitudes, therefore, are the subject of this document. The object of this document is to help you to achieve a state of happiness that will astound you - no matter who you are, and no matter what might be the current state of your life.

The encouraging news is that if your past is somewhat spotted, or if your present circumstances are somewhat unenviable, or if your hopes for the future are somewhat bleak, then you are certainly a most excellent candidate for happiness - for it is the untoward circumstances in life that make our attitudes more pliable and more prone to change.

The amazing news is that the minute you entertain the first of these attitudes, in that minute you become a citizen of the kingdom of God. No, you do not have to be a saint in order to gain citizenship of God's kingdom. The good news is that you only have to acknowledge that you are not a saint in order to become a citizen of this most amazing kingdom. You see, this is not a physical kingdom, as are the kingdoms of this earth, but a spiritual kingdom. This means that this kingdom does not exist within the confines of geographical boundaries . . . it exists within the hearts of all who at least entertain the first of these attitudes. This is what Jesus was talking about when He said . . .

`The kingdom of God does not come visibly, nor will people say, "Here it is," or "there it is," because the kingdom of God is within you.' (Luke 17:20,21)

If you are not already a citizen of God's kingdom, then right now you are closer to His kingdom than you have ever been - just one click away in fact - and the good news just gets better and better.

It is our sincere prayer that what follows will prove to be The Pathway To True Happiness for you and for yours . . .
