Ev-ANGEL-ism?

The purpose of evangelism is not just to reveal that God is, but that God is love. And there is no better way of doing this than by revealing that God is alive and well and living in the hearts of His loving children. No doubt this is why the word "angel" lies buried in the word Evangelism.

Love Begets Love

`Every act, every word, is a seed that will bear fruit. Every deed of thoughtful kindness, of obedience, or of self-denial, will reproduce itself in others, and through them in still others.' (COL85)

`You cannot exert an influence that will transform others until your own heart has been humbled and refined and made tender by the grace [loving kindness] of Christ.' (MB128)

It Is What You Are
 That Really Counts

`Our influence upon others depends not so much upon what we say as upon what we are.' (DA142).

And so we realise that it is good to send out books, to send out tracts, to send out radio broadcasts, to send out televised programmes, to send out satellite transmissions, but we must remember that Jesus pointed out the ideal . . .

`Even so, I send you.' John 20:21

`The beauty and fragrance of the character of Christ revealed in the life testifies that God has indeed sent His Son into the world to be its Saviour.' (COL420)

Ev-ANGEL-ists?

`You cannot hallow His name, you cannot represent Him to the world, unless in life and character you represent the very life and character of God.' (MB107).

`You cannot exert an influence that will transform others until your own heart has been humbled and refined and made tender by the grace of Christ. When this change has been wrought in you, it will be as natural for you to live to bless others as it is for the rosebush to yield its fragrant bloom or the vine its purple clusters.' (MB128)

`The wonderful love of Christ will melt and subdue hearts when the mere reiteration of doctrines would accomplish nothing.' (DA826).

The ev-ANGEL-ists Message

John the Baptist: `Look . . . the Lamb of God.' (John 1:36,37).

Andrew: `We have found the Messiah!'

Philip: `Come and see, . . . we have found Jesus.' (John 1:45).

The woman at the well: `Come, see a man.' (John 4:29).

Ellen White: `Tell the people of Him who is "the chiefest among ten thousand," and the One "altogether lovely." (SOS 5:10,16)

Jesus: `My Father's will is that everyone who LOOKS to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day.' (John 6:40).

God does not call the equipped, He equips the called.

Learning From Our Mistakes

`We have left out Christ and His matchless love, brought in theories and reasonings, and preached argumentative discourses.' (FW16)

`The test of discipleship is not brought to bear as closely as it should be upon those who present themselves for baptism. It should be understood whether those who profess to be converted are simply taking the name Seventh-day Adventists, or whether they are taking their stand on the Lord's side to come out from the world and be separate and touch not the unclean thing.' (TM128)

`God would be better pleased to have six thoroughly converted to the truth than to have sixty make a profession and yet not be truly converted.' (GW370

The Argument of Love

`The people of the world are worshipping idols. They are to be turned from their false worship, not by denunciation of their idols, but by beholding something better. God's goodness is to be made known. (COL299)

`The silent witness of a true, unselfish, godly life carries an almost irresistible influence. By revealing in our own life the character of Christ we co-operate with Him in the work of saving souls. It is only by revealing in our life His character that we can co-operate with Him . . . When every act bears witness that they love God supremely and their neighbour as themselves, then will the church have power to move the world.' (COL340).

Youth Power

`The Lord has appointed the youth to be His helping hand.' (7T64)

`We have an army of youth today who can do much if they are properly directed and encouraged.' (General Conference Bulletin Vol.5:2:24)

`With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world!' (Ed271)

The Final Light

`Words alone cannot tell it. Let it be reflected in the character and manifested in the life. Christ is sitting for His portrait in every disciple. Every one God has predestined to be ``conformed to the image of His Son.'' Romans 8:29. In every one Christ's long-suffering love, His holiness, meekness, mercy, and truth are to be manifested to the world.'' (DA827)

`The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love. The children of God are to manifest His glory. In their own life and character they are to reveal what the grace of God has done for them.' (COL415/6)
