The Power
Of God's Word
The Water of Life
`If
any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.' (John 7:37)
`Christ
said, ``Blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep
it.'' The bread of life alone can satisfy the hungering soul.
The water of life alone will quench the thirst of the thirsty
soul.' (SpTE112)
The
Bread of Life
`I
am the living bread that comes down from heaven. If a man eats
of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is My flesh,
which I will give for the life of the world.' (John 6:51)
`When
the believer, in the fellowship of the Spirit, can lay his
hand upon truth itself, and appropriate it, he eats the bread
that comes down from heaven.' (7BC957)
`The
knowledge that comes from God is the bread of life.' (7BC957)
The
Tree of Life
`Let
all bear in mind that the tree of life bears twelve manner of
fruits. This represents the spiritual work of our earthly
missions. The Word of God is to us the tree of life. Every
portion of the Scripture has its use. In every part of the
Word is some lesson to be learned. Then learn how to study
your Bibles. This book is not a heap of odds and ends. It is
an educator. Your own thoughts must be called into exercise
before you can be really benefitted by Bible Study. Spiritual
sinew and muscle must be brought to bear upon the Word. The
Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance the words of Christ. He
will enlighten the mind, and guide the research.' (7BC989)
`Christ
is the source of our life, the source of immortality. He is
the tree of life, and to all who come to Him He gives
spiritual life.' (7BC989)
Scripture
on Scripture
`The
Words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are
life.' (John 6:63; see 7BC989)
`All
Scripture is God-given and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of
God may be throughly equipped for every good work.' (2 Timothy
3:16,17)
`For
whatever God says to us is full of living power (Living
Bible), and more cutting than any sword with double edge (Moffatt), it strikes through to the place where soul and
spirit meet,
yea, to the inmost parts thereof (Weymouth), it exposes the
very thoughts and motives of a man's heart.' (Hebrews 4:12)
The
Transforming Power
|
`The same power that Christ exercised when He walked visibly among men is in His word.' (MH122.1)
|
`Now
I commit you to God and to the word of His grace, which can
build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who
are sanctified.' (Acts 20:32)
`You
have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you
wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.' (2 Timothy
3:15)
`The
law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of
the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts
of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands
of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The
ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether
righteous, . . . by them is your servant
warned; in keeping them there is great reward.' (Psalm
19:7-11)
`No-one
who is born of God will continue to sin [why?], because God's
seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning because he has
been born of God.' (1 John 3:9)
What
is the seed of God?
`The
seed is the Word of God.' (Luke 8:11)
For
Comfort
`This
is my comfort in my suffering: for Thy word has quickened
(revived; made alive) me.' (Psalm 119:50)
What
Makes Murderers
`Ye
seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.' (John
8:37)
The
Promise
`As
the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return
to it without watering the earth and making it bud and
flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for
the eater, so is My word that goes out from my mouth: It will
not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and
achieve the purpose for which I sent it.' (Isaiah 55:11)
`If
you abide in My word (ASV), you are really disciples of mine;
(Goodspeed) you will understand the truth (Moffatt) and that
very truth will make you free (Lamsa).' (John 8:32)
Free
from what? . . . from sin! So we can stop
trying to fight the sin within us and start focusing on God
and His word - for this is the only way that our sinfulness is
overcome.
A
Joyful Celebration
`With
joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.' (Isaiah
12:3)
The
Bible - being the revelation of God - is the well of
salvation.
`Bring
the fattened calf and kill it. Lets have a feast and
celebrate.' (Luke 15:23,24)
The
Challenge
`Ridding
yourselves, therefore, of all that is vile and of the excesses
of malice, . . . make a soil of humble
modesty for the Word which roots itself inwardly.' (James
1:21, Weymouth and Moffat) |
