Medicinal Drugs?

Those who are not yet aware of the true nature of disease would do well to consider the feature our Free E-Book, Disease-Free, before studying this document. Some will claim that the nature of drugs have changed today, and that the counsel regarding their use is no longer valid, but when we understand the nature of disease we realise that these arguments carry no weight - whether the nature of drugs has changed or not, and that the counsel today is as valid as it ever was. For as long as the nature of disease has not changed, and for as long as the nature of drugs has not changed, and for as long as `nature is the effectual restorer,' it will make no sense adding drug poisons to an already poisoned body.

Do Drugs Cure?

`People need to be taught that drugs do not cure disease. Health is recovered in spite of the drug. But in most cases the drug only changes the form and location of the disease. Often the effect of the poison seems to be overcome for a time, but the results remain in the system and work great harm at some later period.' (MH126)

`Drugs never cure disease. They only change the form and location. Nature alone is the effectual restorer, and how much better could she perform her task if left to herself.' `Sick people who take these drug-poisons do appear to get well. With some, there is sufficient life-force for nature to draw upon, to so far expel the poison from the system that the sick, having a period of rest, recover. But no credit should be allowed the drugs taken, for they only hindered nature in her efforts. All the credit should be ascribed to nature's restorative powers.' (4SGa134; 2SM442)

God's Pathway to Health - I

`The laws of nature, as truly as the precepts of the Decalogue, are divine, and only in obedience to them can health be recovered or preserved.' (LLM110)

`Every practice which destroys the physical, mental, or spiritual energies is sin, and . . . health is to be secured through obedience to the laws that God has established for the good of all mankind.' (MH113)

`We cannot be too often reminded that health does not depend on chance. It is a result of obedience to law.' (MH128)

`Christ has been the guide and teacher of ancient Israel, and He taught them that health is the reward of obedience to the laws of God.' (DA824)

In Search of Health

The World's Way     →

Drugs = Health

God's Way              →

Obedience = Health

Notice that while medicinal drugs do have their rightful place, Satan has led the masses on earth to unwittingly view drugs as an alternative to obedience. No wonder the drug companies are amongst the most powerful and profitable companies on earth.

Obedience to Which Laws of Nature?

`Drugs never cure disease. They only change the form and location. Nature alone is the effectual restorer, and how much better could she perform her task if left to herself.' (4SGa134)

`Pure air, Sunlight, Abstemiousness, Rest, Exercise, Proper diet, The use of water, Trust in divine power, these are the true remedies. Every person should have a knowledge of nature's remedial agencies and how to apply them.' (MH127)

An Inspired Prescription

`In case of sickness, . . .

(1) the cause should be ascertained.

(2) unhealthful conditions should be changed,

(3) wrong habits corrected.

(4) Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.' (MH127)

What is Disease?

Acute

Colds, boils, pimples, fevers

Sub-acute

Influenza and bronchial disorders

Chronic

Hay fever, psoriasis, pneumonia

Sub-chronic

Degenerative

Cancer,, gangrene,, emphysema

The Categories of Disease

What is Acute Disease?

`Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health.' (MH127)

`Nature, to relieve herself of poisonous impurities, makes an effort to free the system. This effort produces fevers, and what is termed disease.' (CH61)

Is Acute Disease a Friend or Foe?

`In all their habits . . . they have manifested a recklessness in regard to health and life; and when, as the result, sickness has come upon them they have made themselves believe that God was the author of it, when their own wrong course of action has brought the sure result. When in distress they send for the doctor, and trust their bodies in his hands, expecting that he will make them well. He deals out to them drugs, the nature of which they know nothing, and in their blind confidence they swallow anything that the doctor may choose to give. Thus powerful poisons are often administered which fetter nature in all her friendly efforts to recover the abuse the system has suffered, and the patient is hurried out of this life.' (HL175)

The Remedies that

Cleanse The System

`Shall physicians continue to resort to drugs, which leave a deadly evil in the system, destroying that life which Christ came to restore? Christ's remedies cleanse the system. But Satan has tempted man to introduce into the system that which weakens the human machinery, clogging and destroying the fine, beautiful arrangements of God. The drugs administered to the sick do not restore, but destroy. Drugs never cure. Instead, they place in the system seeds which bear a very bitter harvest.' (2SM288/9)

Drugs?

`When you understand physiology in its truest sense, your drug bills will be very much smaller, and finally you will cease to deal out drugs at all. The physician who depends upon drug medication in his practice shows that he does not understand the delicate machinery of the human organism. He is introducing into the system a seed crop that will never lose its destroying properties throughout the lifetime. I tell you this because I dare not withhold it. Christ paid too much for man's redemption to have his body so ruthlessly treated as it has been by drug medication. Years ago the Lord revealed to me that institutions should be established for treating the sick without drugs.' (MM228, 229)

Needs of The Sick Body

¤  We must remove causes and not just focus on symptoms. Drugs suppress symptoms but do not as a rule remove causes.

¤  The need of the sick body is for more energy. Drugs do not provide the body with more energy.

¤  The sick body needs to be cleansed of toxic impurities. Drugs add to but do not lessen the level of impurities in the system.

¤  Nature must be assisted as she seeks to heal and cleanse the system. Drugs do not assist but suppress Nature's effort to cleanse the system.

¤  Nature cure and Ellen White speak of our acute diseases as friends. Drugs are formulated with the idea in mind that disease is an enemy.

The Million Dollar Question

If our acute diseases are Nature's effort to remove toxic impurities from the system . . . and we suppress this effort by way of drugs - most of which are toxic in themselves . . . what happens to the impurities that Nature was trying to remove from the system - along with the drug impurities?

Drugs - Turn Acute Diseases

Into More Serious Diseases?

`Multitudes remain in inexcusable ignorance in regard to the laws of their being. They are wondering why our race is so feeble, and why so many die prematurely. Is there not a cause? Physicians who profess to understand the human organism, prescribe for their patients, and even for their own dear children, and their companions, slow poisons to break up disease, or to cure slight indisposition. Surely they cannot realize the evil of these things as they were presented before me, or they could not do thus.

`The effects of the poison may not be immediately perceived, but it is doing its work surely in the system, undermining the constitution, and crippling nature in her efforts. They are seeking to correct an evil [acute ailment], but produce a far greater one, which is often incurable [chronic / degenerative ailment]. ' (4SGa137)

`Those who are thus dealt with are constantly sick, and constantly dosing. And yet, if you listen to their conversation, you will often hear them praising the drugs they have been using, and recommending their use to others, because they have been benefited by their use. . . . And yet many are so blinded they do not see that all the drugs they have taken have not cured them, but made them worse.' (4SGa137)

`Every additional drug given to the patient will complicate the case, and make the patient's recovery more hopeless. An evil, simple in the beginning, which nature aroused herself to overcome [acute disease], and which she would have done if left to herself, aided by the common blessings of Heaven, has been made tenfold worse by introducing drug poisons into the system, which cause of themselves a destructive disease [chronic / degenerative], forcing into extraordinary action the remaining life forces to war against and overcome the drug intruder.' (HL57)

`When drugs are introduced into the system, for a time they may seem to have a beneficial effect. A change may take place, but the disease is not cured. It will manifest itself in some other form. In nature's effort to expel the drug from the system, intense suffering is sometimes caused the patient. And the disease, which the drug was given to cure, may disappear, but only to re-appear in a new form, such as skin diseases, ulcers, painful diseased joints, and sometimes in a more dangerous and deadly form. The liver, heart, and brain, are frequently affected by drugs, and often all these organs are burdened by disease, and the unfortunate subjects, if they live, are invalids for life, wearily dragging out a miserable existence.' (HL186A)

According to Nature Cure

`It is fully accepted by the Nature Cure philosophy that orthodox medical treatment, with its drugging and surgical operations, not only cannot cure disease, but succeeds merely in turning simple diseases into far more serious ones. The main fact to be noted is that, according to Nature Cure, all chronic disease originates in the first place through the suppression, by wrong medical methods of treatment, of acute diseases.' (Dr Harry Benjamin N.D., Everybody's Guide To Nature Cure, PP.405, 9, 10)

Great is Our Accountability

`Everywhere people are perishing for lack of a knowledge of the truths that have been committed to us.' (CD455)

`The darkness of the Gentile world was attributable to the neglect of the Jewish nation, as is represented in the ninth chapter of Zechariah.' (Commentary, Vol. 4, p. 1180)
